MA, 2025-26 Doctoral ExternEmail »rcooper@waypointwellnesscenter.com

I am a Licensed Psychology Associate in Maryland and a doctoral extern working under the supervision of Dr. Nicole Berger. I am in the process of obtaining my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School in Washington, DC. I have a strong educational background with a Master’s in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School and a Master’s in Child and Adolescent Development and Applied Behavior Analysis from Capella University. I have also received a health services professions scholarship from the Air Force to pursue a career as a military psychologist following my training. As a therapist, I am integrative in my theoretical approach, prioritizing interpersonal empathy and cultural sensitivity, and drawing on methods from cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), humanistic therapy, and mindfulness-based practices. I am encouraging and compassionate, and I enjoy collaborating with my clients to support them in achieving their goals.

Professional Experience

I am integrative in my theoretical approach, prioritizing interpersonal empathy and cultural sensitivity, and drawing on methods from CBT, ACT, humanistic therapy, and mindfulness-based practices. My clinical experience includes working as a psychology extern at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, where I assess and treat individuals in the Burn Unit, and at Mirror Mental Health, where I assess and treat individuals of all ages with various mental health concerns. I also have extensive assessment experience as a psychology extern and psychology associate at Integrative Psychological Services, LLC, where I conduct assessments for developmental disabilities, academic achievement, immigration, and comprehensive mental health evaluations. Additionally, I have experience as a Teaching Assistant for projective psychology assessments and have attended multiple workshops and conferences on topics related to military psychology. Prior to this, I worked as a behavior therapist in school and home settings with children with ASD and ADHD. I enjoy working with all ages facing a range of presenting problems, including but not limited to anxiety, ASD, ADHD, adjustment disorders, depression, grief, PTSD and other trauma and stress-related disorders, and relational issues.

Life Outside the Office

I live in Montgomery County, MD, with my family. I am currently a military service member and prior military spouse, so I have experience on both sides of the military lifestyle. I enjoy spending time reading, doing yoga, and swimming.

Rachel starts her psychology externship at Waypoint in August, 2025. She works in the Linthicum location and she also provides telehealth services. She is credentialed with Carefirst insurance.
