Doctoral Psychology Externship

Waypoint Wellness Center offers an advanced practicum/externship experience for psychology doctoral students at various levels of training.

Candidates must have completed a Master’s degree in clinical or counseling psychology or have a master’s degree in education with a field of specialization in psychology or counseling psychology and are willing to obtain a psychology associate license in Maryland (Waypoint will pay application fees). 

Placements are 16 hours per week for 9-12 months, and require 1-2 full on-site days per week, with options for virtual experience to supplement. 

Trainees will all provide 10-12 hours of clinical services weekly. Waypoint is primarily a therapy-based externship, but can include some assessment depending on interests/needs. Trainees with experience or interest in serving children and adolescents are preferred. Opportunities for involvement in group-based services and community mental health are available for interested students.

Trainees will receive individual supervision for one hour weekly, participate in weekly group supervision and weekly didactics. Additional opportunities to obtain more specialized supervision and training are available for those interested.

Support Staff

Office Assistant

The Office Assistant provides administrative and clerical support to ensure the efficient operation of a mental health practice. This position serves as a primary point of contact for clients, assists with scheduling and billing functions, maintains confidential records, and supports clinicians in delivering high-quality patient care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Client Relations

  • Answer incoming phone calls, emails, and messages.
  • Schedule, reschedule, and confirm appointments.
  • Provide information regarding practice policies, forms, and procedures.
  • Assist clients with completing intake paperwork and obtaining required documentation.

Administrative Support

  • Maintain electronic and paper records in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Scan, file, and organize documents.
  • Process incoming and outgoing mail, faxes, and correspondence.
  • Order and maintain office supplies and equipment.
  • Assist with special projects and administrative tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree preferred.
  • Previous administrative or medical office experience preferred.
  • Experience in a mental health, healthcare, or counseling setting is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and patient confidentiality requirements preferred.

Physical Requirements

Psychologists, Social Workers, & Counselors

Waypoint offers individual, family, and couples psychotherapy as well as medication management in a private practice setting. In addition, we have expertise in psychological, neuropsychological, and psycho-educational testing.

We are looking for a licensed psychologist, social worker, or counselor who is passionate about providing empirically based services to join our growing interdisciplinary team. Providers who are two years+ post licensure and have previous clinical experience working with children and adolescents and who have worked in private practice settings will be given preference.

Part-time and full-time opportunities available in our three locations (Annapolis, Severna Park & Linthicum Heights). Caseloads will be based on preference and experience. Psychiatrist/Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Waypoint offers medication management in a private practice setting.

We are in search of adult and child and adolescent psychiatrists and/or NPs to provide evidenced based care in our multidisciplinary thriving practice.
