I am a licensed psychologist in the State of Maryland. I work with individuals over 13 years of age. I specialize in working with clients with a variety of issues that incudes anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, LGBTQIA+ issues including sexuality and gender diversity, as well as working with women who experience reproductive challenges and postpartum anxiety and depression. I provide evidence-based, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and incorporate aspects of mindfulness-based approaches into treatment, amongst other approaches and researched back strategies.
I am highly skilled in working with adolescents and young adults as they navigate this challenging time in life. Whether managing anxiety, depression, executive function challenges, self-esteem, social/relationship problems, or identity issues, amongst others, I can help them find solutions and hone their problem-solving skills. Additionally, I also have a great deal of experience working with adults. We, as adults, often find ourselves feeling stuck and dwelling on thoughts and feelings that we know hinder us from moving forward. By using evidence-based approaches I can help individuals develop coping skills to manage these challenges. Further, by exploring a patient’s life experiences and the impact they have had on their worldview and behaviors, we can find the approach that works best for each individual. I approach
therapy by having direct and honest conversations, while also providing empathy, understanding, and sometimes a bit of humor.
Professional Experience
I earned my doctorate in clinical psychology at the American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University, in Arlington, VA, and my Masters in Psychology at Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA. Other training includes a Pre-Doctoral Internship at Associated Clinical Services, a private practice in Springfield VA, and Externships at
Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital in Baltimore, MD, and Children’s National Medical Center in Bethesda, MD.
Life Outside the Office
I am married and have two young children, as well as three fur babies (one dog and two cats). I live in Anne Arundel County. Whether walking with our children and collecting nature (their favorite activity), riding bikes, or going on long runs or walks on my own and with friends, I love to be outside and am even happier when I am near or on the water. Exercise is my main coping skill, so I make it a priority to work out every day.
Dr. Smith has office hours in each of our locations and will also see patients via telehealth. She will be credentialed with Carefirst, Tricare, USFH, and JH EHP.
