Lizzie Pierce

MA, 2026-2027 Doctoral InternEmail »lpierce@waypointwellnesscenter.com

I am a doctoral intern working under the supervision of Drs. Suzanne Linkroum and Allyson Kett. I have experience working with children, adolescents, and families across a range of settings, including school-based therapy and evaluation, community mental health clinics, and forensic psychological assessment. I enjoy working across the lifespan with individuals experiencing a variety of challenges with their emotional, behavioral, or spiritual health. While I welcome a wide range of concerns, I have developed particular expertise working with individuals with neurodevelopmental differences (neurodivergence), those exploring identity, parent-child relationship concerns, and broader family system dynamics, including work with couples.

I operate from a Rogerian, person-centered perspective, meaning I believe that each person already has within them the capacity to move toward a meaningful and fulfilling life. My hope is to support clients in building self-directed empathy and compassion, so they can begin showing up for the things that matter most to them in their everyday lives. In our work together, clients can expect me to approach them with curiosity, compassion, and authentic connection. I also bring in evidence-based techniques from modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). It is important to me that my therapeutic services are adaptable and collaborative in order to meet the unique needs of each client.

Professional Experience

For the past four years, I have engaged in academic training at George Fox University and clinical training throughout the Willamette Valley in Oregon. I am currently in my fifth year of earning my doctorate in clinical psychology, having obtained my master’s in clinical psychology along the way. My undergraduate background is in health sciences, where I was initially enrolled in a physician assistant master’s program before I decided on a career change. I have found my purpose in training to become a psychologist, an alignment which I have also seen benefit those I work with.

I have also found fulfillment in leadership roles in my PsyD program’s peer-led conflict consultation team and editing team. My dissertation research focuses on the first-hand perspectives of emerging adults with autism spectrum disorders as they have learned to navigate romantic relationships. Additional research interests include LGBTQ+ populations, sex education in schools, and stressful experiences around the integration of religion and sex education.

Life Outside the Office

It is important to me that I take time to self-reflect and be creative. This includes time spent cuddling my two cats, walks with my dog, deep conversations with my spouse, playing piano, and writing fiction novels. I also love to laugh! I am a people person, and some of my most treasured memories have been laughing with my loved ones over a cup of coffee, a board game, or a Smosh (YouTube sketch comedy) video.

Lizzie works in our Severna Park location and also sees patients via telehealth. She will be credentialed with Carefirst BCBS. Her doctoral internship runs from July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027.
