Allyson Kett

I am a licensed psychologist in Maryland and Delaware and co-founder of Waypoint Wellness Center. I have  been working in the private practice setting for over fourteen years and work with children, adolescents, adults and families with a range of presenting problems with various levels of severity, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, self-harm, Separation Anxiety Disorder, OCD, and various behavioral problems and adjustment disorders. I try to meet people’s needs by assessing where they are in their readiness for change. I primarily use an integrative approach to psychotherapy with an emphasis on cognitive behavioral theory and family systems theory. I am trained in dialectical behavior therapy and frequently use play therapy when working with children. I also conduct family therapy. In addition, I have expertise in psychological, neuropsychological,  and psycho-educational testing.

Professional Experience

I have worked in a variety of mental health settings including private practice, university counseling centers, inpatient psychiatric facilities, community mental health centers, and school settings. I have held adjunct faculty positions and supervisory roles at Loyola University in Baltimore and Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Washington DC. My undergraduate work was completed at the College of William and Mary and I hold a Masters in Psychology in Education from Columbia University and a PsyD in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in Children and Families from the American School of Professional Psychology in Washington, DC. I am co-author and co-editor of books focused on integrating psychological principles and research into the field of educational development.

Life Outside the Office

I am married with two young children in Anne Arundel County. I love photography, traveling, cooking, and spending time with my wonderful friends, family, and doodle, Gracie. I do my best to prioritize “me time” and live by example for my patients. This translates to taking a spin class, eating healthy (or trying to eat healthy), spending time with new and old friends, and relaxing with a cup of coffee on my porch (when weather permits).
