A sign with a painted star

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Art Therapist dedicated to supporting children, adolescents, and young adults as they navigate emotional, behavioral, developmental, and life challenges. I am passionate about helping young people recognize their strengths, cultivate emotional well-being, and thrive within themselves, their relationships, and their communities.

I utilize an integrative art therapy approach that incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), humanistic, and psychodynamic principles. By combining evidence-based interventions with creative expression, I help clients explore emotions, increase self-awareness, strengthen resilience, develop coping skills, and foster meaningful personal growth. I strive to create a supportive, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment where clients feel safe to explore their experiences, express themselves authentically, and build confidence in their ability to navigate challenges.

Professional Experience

I earned my master’s degree in art therapy and counseling from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 2022. My clinical experience spans a variety of settings, including the pediatric unit at the University of Maryland Children’s Hospital, private practice, school-based programs at the Kennedy Krieger Institute, and a child and adolescent intensive outpatient program. Through these experiences, I have had the opportunity to work with diverse populations presenting with a wide range of mental health, medical, developmental, and trauma-related needs.

In my work within an intensive outpatient program, I provided care for adolescents and children experiencing acute mental health challenges and the effects of trauma. My responsibilities included conducting clinical assessments, suicide and self-harm risk evaluations, treatment planning, and family meetings, while collaborating closely with psychiatrists and multidisciplinary treatment teams to support comprehensive care.

Working across medical, educational, and outpatient and intensive outpatient settings has provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the unique challenges faced by children, adolescents, young adults, and their families. I am committed to providing compassionate, individualized care that supports each client’s growth, resilience, emotional well-being, and overall development.

Life Outside the Office

I grew up in Clinton County, Pennsylvania, and moved to the Baltimore area at a young age. Outside of my work as an art therapist, I enjoy spending time with my family, which includes my husband, our daughter, and our two energetic and affectionate Aussies.

In my free time, I enjoy collecting seashells, painting, gardening, fishing, kayaking, boating, and taking daily walks with my family along the Chesapeake Bay. These activities help me stay grounded, and connecting with nature, inspires my love for creativity and beauty that can be found in everyday life.

Selena works in our Annapolis and Severna Park locations. She will soon be credentialed with Carefirst BCBS.
