Kristen Keuleman

As a licensed clinical professional counselor, I have experience working with adolescents, adults, and families struggling with a variety of challenges including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, low self-esteem, adjustment to life transitions, parenting issues and other family-related concerns. I approach working with clients from a Strengths-Based perspective, working collaboratively with clients to develop goals and foster well-being by developing increased resilience and empowerment. In this effort, I utilize a variety of evidence-based practices including psychoeducation, Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, & Solution Focused therapy to maximize outcomes. In addition, I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms. That being said, no technique is more valuable to a client’s progress than building a positive and trusting therapeutic relationship, which remains my priority throughout treatment.

Professional Experience

I am a mid-life career changer. After having kids, I decided to take a chance and pursue my dream to earn a Master of Science Degree in Counseling followed by a Post Master’s Certificate in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Johns Hopkins University in 2018. I am so glad I took the leap! I’m passionate about my work and love engaging with clients to help them gain a sense of well-being and fulfill their potential. Most recently, I worked at The Children’s Guild as an outpatient mental health clinician providing therapy and support to adolescents and families for both situational and ongoing social, emotional and behavioral issues. I very much consider myself a life-long learner and take every opportunity to advance my knowledge and skills to become a better practitioner.

Life Outside the Office

I live in Edgewater with my husband, two teenage boys and my sweet little dog Annie. In my free time, I enjoy riding the Peloton, walking, cooking, and reading – especially historical fiction and self-help books. I also love traveling with my family and exploring new places. So far, my favorite spot is Bar Harbor, Maine where we love to hike and eat lobsters!
