Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, or DBT, is a type of cognitive behavioral therapy that has been developed to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, borderline personality, and self harm behaviors. It is considered an empirically supported treatment and can be applied to a variety of psychological issues.

DBT Teaches Four Sets of Skills

  • Mindfulness: the practice of being fully aware and present in this one moment
  • Distress Tolerance: how to tolerate pain in difficult situations, not change it
  • Interpersonal Effectiveness: how to ask for what you want and say no while maintaining self-respect and relationships with others
  • Emotion Regulation: how to change emotions that you want to change

Waypoint Wellness Center has offered DBT in a variety of formats, including individual and group based work. Currently we are not offering a DBT group.
